Photo Memoirs

For people who have more photos and documents than stories to share, our Photo Memoir book is a popular choice. It’s often a more economical choice, too, since less time is required for manuscript creation and the finished book typically has fewer pages than full-length life-story books or memoirs.

The Process

During our first meeting, we will give you a list of pre-interview questions. This will provide us with important names and dates, and a roadmap for the project. We will also discuss your photo and document collection to get an idea of the scope and budget of your project. (Photo Memoirs usually contain 100 photos and documents combined.)

A typical Photo Memoir requires three hours of audio-interview time and an additional three or four hours to choose and identify photos and documents. Ideally, we will spend at least one of these hours going through photos before the interviews begin.

While our transcriber transcribes the interviews, we will begin scanning your photos and documents. If any photo restoration is required, it will be done at this time.

The transcribed interviews will be organized and edited into a first-person narrative that retains your true voice. When the first draft has been completed, we will ask you to review it carefully and make changes and corrections. At this time, we will begin working with you on appropriate photo placement within the document.

When you are satisfied with the finished manuscript, and photo and document placements have been assigned, the design and layout portion of the project will begin.
