Now it’s time to think about your finished product. After choosing photos and documents that best compliment your story, we will create an appropriate book design and layout, then work with you to refine it until it meets your needs. The elements under consideration during this phase are book dimensions, fonts, spacing, chapter headings, footers, photo pages, etc. If your old photos and documents are in need of repair, we offer extensive photo retouching.
Next, taking your budget into consideration, we will determine what book materials are best suited for your end product: softcovers vs. hardcovers, paper, printing method, end papers, book cloth, etc.
Until recently, producing books in small runs of one to 500 was not possible. Computers and digital technology have changed all that. The Memory Works now produces elegant, digitally printed hardcover books in runs of one to 100, digitally printed softcover books in runs of 25 to 500, as well as books utilizing offset printing in runs of 500 to 3000 or more.
Our hardbound, digitally produced short-run books are printed in folded signatures on 70-pound, acid-free archival papers, then bound together using a process known as Smythe-sewing. They are built to last.
And if more cost-effective, softcover books are more to your liking, we’ll be happy to provide you with them, as well.
